Gardiner/Lake Shore Construction Update

ByBrad Bradford

Starting August 31, 2021 at 9pm the Logan Ramps at the east end of the Gardiner are going to be permanently closed. This work is part of a much larger project to reconfigure the Gardiner, improve Lake Shore Boulevard East and create flood protection for the Port Lands. This interactive map provides great details on the transformation that will be achieved through this construction.

In order to remove the ramps, Lake Shore Boulevard East (from Cherry Street to Carlaw Avenue) will be closed on weekends only in September and October 2021.

Additional work to improve Lake Shore Boulevard East will start in October 2021 and is expected to last until 2024. During this phase, Lake Shore Boulevard East will remain open with lane restrictions. There will be two lanes eastbound and one lane westbound open on Lake Shore for the duration of construction.

This work will create new space that will accommodate bike lanes, pedestrian paths and a new linear park, and allow for the re-design and naturalization of the Don River, which will be a critical element for future flood protection of the Port Lands.
