Hi Friend,
Although the temperatures have dropped, the calendar has officially turned to spring. I want to wish a happy Nowruz to everyone who is celebrating with family and friends. For those observing Ramadan, I hope you are having a meaningful time in this sacred season of reflection. It has been a privilege to join several Iftars and have discussions about our community and the state of our city, and I look forward to participating in several more before Eid.

In the aftermath of February’s snowstorms, many of you have shared concerns about the state of our roads, including a massive increase in potholes. I’ve raised these with city staff, and am glad that Transportation Services has started holding pothole blitzes to address some of the worst areas. Next week at City Council, I’ll have the chance to bring your concerns about the inadequate snow clearing and removal response to staff, and get answers about how we ensure a much better delivery of services during the next major storm.
Last week I also met with staff on-site at Main and Danforth to address your concerns about seemingly unnecessary lane closures that have been impacting traffic flow. Thanks to our collective advocacy, the southbound lane was opened up to right-turning traffic. I’ll keep working to make sure the city is doing what we can to keep lanes open and roads safe.

Last weekend was also the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a great opportunity to celebrate Irish culture and welcome spring. I had a great time celebrating – you can watch some highlights from the parade here.

With the economic uncertainty caused by U.S. tariffs, now more than ever we need to pull together. I’ll be proudly supporting Toronto’s Love Local campaign, and encourage everyone to get out and buy Canadian from our local businesses – they need our support more than ever.
As always, let me know how my team and I can help you.
I’ll see you around the community.
Warmly,

– Brad

City Hall Updates
In response to a motion I moved last April, changes are here in Toronto to embrace modular and rapid-build housing that will mean faster approvals, accelerated construction, and more affordable housing for our city.
Modular housing is built in a factory and then assembled on-site like Lego blocks. This technology makes it easier to work on tight sites downtown, and means less construction time and disruption for our communities.
But for too long, red tape and a lack of coordination between the City and builders has effectively made Toronto an inaccessible market for this innovative housing solution. I have visited modular factories right here in the GTHA that ship their products worldwide and yet aren’t operational in Toronto.
That’s why I moved a motion directing Toronto Building staff to streamline the building permit process and facilitate modular and rapid-built housing development. One year later, staff have reported back with the necessary changes that will make this housing solution possible in Toronto.
I believe that a growing city must embrace innovation, and I will continue to push for smart solutions to the housing crisis at City Hall.
Small Business Spotlight
Ampersand Bakehouse, located at 1808 Danforth Ave, is a true local gem owned by Stephanie Kaptein. Specializing in custom cakes, Ampersand also offers an irresistible selection of cupcakes and cookies that never disappoint.
This week, Ampersand faced an unfortunate setback when their window was vandalized. However, the outpouring of support from the East End community was nothing short of heartwarming. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our neighbors, the repair costs were fully covered – a powerful reminder of the strength in coming together when it matters most.
With rising US tariffs putting pressure on small businesses across Toronto, now more than ever, it’s crucial to support the local places that make our city so special.
Drop by Ampersand for a treat, grab a coffee, or order a custom cake for your next event. Your support helps people like Steph thrive and ensures our local businesses stay strong in times like these.

COSTI’s New2Canada Host Program
For the past two years, COSTI’s Ukrainian Housing Host Program has provided Ukrainian newcomers with temporary accommodation in host homes, and it has been a resounding success, having helped 143 of families since the inception.

This new program aims to match skilled workers and provincial nominees with a host family for a short initial stay of a few weeks, until they find their own permanent accommodation. While New2Canada is not intended as a long-term housing solution or a means to address cost-of-living issues, it is designed to offer a warm welcome and a smooth transition for newcomers arriving in Toronto.

City of Toronto Taking Actions to Address Dangerous Dog Behaviour
As directed by Toronto City Council, the City is visiting owners of all dogs who have received a dangerous dog order. Staff are delivering a new standardized sign for owners of these dangerous dogs, which must be visibly posted on their property. Staff will also remind owners of the requirements of their dangerous dog order. Following these proactive visits, staff will continue to conduct regular compliance checks and respond to complaints to ensure compliance.
The City has also posted a public list of dangerous dogs that includes the first three digits of the postal code for the dog owner, ward number, the dog’s name, breed and colour, and the date of the dangerous act at: toronto.ca/DangerousDogs.
Most dog attacks can be prevented if dogs are kept on a leash. Residents are reminded that it is a bylaw requirement for all dog owners to keep their dogs on leashes when out in public (except when in designated dogs off-leash areas). The most impactful action owners can undertake is prevention. If residents observe a dog they believe to have a dangerous dog designation without its muzzle or in an off-leash dog park, a complaint can be made to 311 and the matter will be investigated. City of Toronto taking actions to address dangerous dog behaviour.
We understand the importance of exercise for your beloved pet. However, it is important to practice Responsible Dog Ownership and keep your dog on leash in areas that are not marked off as official dog off-leash areas.
Please take the time to visit the following dogs off-leash areas in Beaches-East York by visiting the interactive map.

Main Street Bus Loop Final Concrete Work:
To complete the improvements at Main Street Station, there will be concrete work happening overnight on Sunday March 23rd 2025.

City of Toronto Expands Administrative Penalty System to Include Automated Road Safety Tools
Starting today, the City of Toronto is expanding its Administrative Penalty System (APS) to to make it easier, more convenient and accessible to dispute Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) and Red-Light Camera (RLC) violations. Vehicle owners who receive an ASE or RLC violation that occurred on or after Monday, January 20 can dispute the violation online at toronto.ca/aps.
In 2017, the City, as part of its commitment to customer service improvements, introduced APS to enable motorists to dispute parking violations through an administrative review process instead of a court-based system. Since its implementation, APS has streamlined the dispute process for parking violations, offering timely, fair and efficient resolution.
Following the City’s successful introduction of APS for parking violations and its commitment to road safety in the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan (www.toronto.ca/visionzero), the City is now expanding APS to include RLC and ASE violations. Both RLC and ASE are important tools in the Vision Zero plan, which prioritizes the safety of Toronto’s most vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, people cycling, school children and older adults.
How to request a screening review
Vehicle owners who receive a RLC or ASE violation that occurred on or after Monday, January 20 can request a screening to dispute a violation.
Payments can be made online, by mail or in-person at seven City locations. More information about APS, including where payments can be made in-person, is available on the City’s website: www.toronto.ca/aps.
