One of the most common issues I hear about from residents is road safety. 42 pedestrians were killed on Toronto’s streets in 2019 alone. This is unacceptable, and we need to be doing more to prevent this. Reducing speed is one of the most impactful things that we can do to reduce crashes, and lower the chance for severe injury when crashes do occur. That’s why our Toronto and East York Community Council passed multiple recommendations for reduced speed limits across our community. Here’s the list of the affected streets in our ward;
From 50km/h to 30km/h:
1) on Lumsden Avenue between Westlake Avenue and Eastdale Avenue
2) on Sandra Road between St. Clair Avenue and O’Connor Drive
3) on St. Clair Avenue East between O’Connor Drive and Sandra Road
4) on Sunrise Avenue, between O’Connor Drive and Victoria Park Avenue
From 40km/h to 30km/h:
1) Cosburn Avenue, between Woodbine Avenue and Westlake Avenue
2) Crescent Town Road, between Dawes Road and Victoria Park Avenue
3) Eastdale Avenue, between Secord Avenue and Lumsden Avenue
4) Hambly Avenue, between Queen Street East and Williamson Road
5) Secord Avenue, between Barrington Avenue and Dawes Road
6) Southwood Drive, between Williamson Road and Kingston Road, and
7) Wineva Avenue, between Queen Street East and Williamson Road
If you believe a street that isn’t listed is in need of a reduced speed limit, please reach out to my office. For more information on these recommendations – http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2020.TE12.37
