I moved a motion at our budget wrap-up meeting today asking for the TTC to include a rational, consistent approach as part of their planned fare review. This motion makes a connection between the work happening at the TTC Board and gives us an opportunity to evolve from our ad hoc and incremental approach to fare policy.
A systematic approach is the only way we’re going to be able to address issues like fairness and equity through our TTC fares. We’ve implemented similar policies through the Poverty Reduction Strategy, Youth Equity Strategy, and TransformTO that I would like to see integrated into the way we set fares. My hope with this motion is that we can all get behind a consistent and thoughtful approach that aligns with our City priorities.
